Janos Sztipanovits

Dr. Janos Sztipanovits is currently the E. Bronson Ingram Distinguished Professor of Engineering and professor of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Computer Engineering at Vanderbilt University. He is founding director of the Institute for Software Integrated Systems (ISIS) including over 100 professional research staff, faculty and graduate students. Between 1999 and 2002, he worked as program manager and acting deputy director of DARPA Information Technology Office. His research areas are at the intersection of systems and computer science and engineering. His current research interest is the foundation and applications of Model-Integrated Computing, an emerging model-based design technology for distributed embedded software, which is used in a wide range of defense and commercial systems. His other research contributions include structurally adaptive systems, autonomous systems, design space exploration and systems-security co-design technology. He has co-authored two books, over 180 papers and 7 international patents. He was founding chair of the ACM Special Interest Group on Embedded Software (SIGBED). Dr. Sztipanovits was elected Fellow of the IEEE in 2000. He has received the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service in 2002, the DARPA Service and Achievement award in 2001. He won National Prize in Hungary in 1985 for science and engineering achievements. He graduated from the Technical University of Budapest in 1970 and received his doctorate with distinction (Golden Ring) in 1982.
