Recent advances on WDM Silicon Photonics Devices for HPC Applications
Abstract
In this talk, I will present an overview of the recent work done by our group at HP Labs on our hybrid laser technology for directly-modulated ring lasers, on-chip quantum dot comb lasers, high-speed ring modulators and both quantum dot & germanium-based avalanche photodiodes. I will also discuss the packaging and fiber attachment & connectors schemes that are under development for enabling a cost-effective, scalable solution to drive the industry adoption of silicon photonics into the future data center and high-performance computing deployments.
Biography
Ashkan received a dual Bachelor's in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Ph.D. from University of Southern California working on photonic crystal devices, high-speed nanowire photodetectors, efficient white LEDs and solar cells. While at Hewlett Packard Enterprise as a research scientist, he has been working on developing high-bandwidth, efficient optical interconnects for exascale and high performance computing applications.
