Buzzword spotting: Machine learning at the edge of a trillion node IoT
Abstract
We live in an era of overlapping trends. A revolution in machine learning is happening at the same time as a previous revolution in semiconductor capability is winding down. Smartphones have dramatically changed the world over the last decade, but how much better is your current phone than your previous one? A trillion node IoT is possible, but what will it do? There are many opportunities ahead, but the rapidly changing environment may mislead our intuition about them. This talk looks at today's competing trends and the technology underlying them, and discusses methodical approaches to get past the hype to find some promising avenues going forward.
