Étienne Nowak

Quobly, Grenoble, France

Silicon Qubit, building a path towards silicon quantum computer

Biography

Etienne Nowak received the M.Sc. degree in microelectronics from Grenoble University, Grenoble, France; Polito di Torino, Turin, Italy; and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, Grenoble, France, in 2010.

From 2010 to 2014, he was a Senior Engineer at the Semiconductor Research and Development Center, Samsung Electronics, Hwaseong, South Korea, where he was involved in the first fourth generations of vertical NAND flash memory. He joined CEA-Leti, Grenoble, France, in 2014, as a Project Manager on emerging nonvolatile memory. From 2017 to 2021, he was the Head of the Advanced Memory Device Laboratory, CEA-Leti, Grenoble, France, dedicated to the development of nonvolatile memory backend technologies (PCRAM, ReRAM, MRAM). Several research projects were successfully transferred to industrial partners. In 2022, he spends 2 years on the simulation of quantum computing device on silicon for the project from which Quobly was created. Then from 2023 to 2024, he led an industrial project transfer for 650V GaN power device. He joined Quobly in 2024 in order to make silicon quantum computing hardware a reality. He is Silicon technology Manager, leading the team that include integration, design and simulation activity.

He published over 120 papers and holds severals patents on these topics.
