Title:

Assisting Cache Replacement by Helper-Threading for MPSoCs

Abstract:

As the number of processor cores on MPSoCs increases, idling cores also increase because most of today's applications cannot fully utilize many of cores. Effectively utilizing idle cores is an important research topic. In this talk, we preset a helper-threading approach to mitigate the cache contention by making good use of these idling cores. Our helper-thread assists cache replacement decision by estimating data locality so that the cache replacement can be flexibly optimized by software depending on the characteristics of executing applications. Preliminary evaluation results are shown in this presentation.
