Energy-Efficient Multicore Processor for Large Stream Data in IoT Systems
Abstract
Reducing energy consumption and keeping high applicability to a variety of applications are contradicting design requirements but both essential for embedded computing devices, especially in IoT era. Contrary to most embedded processors that are getting richer resources for higher performance, we propose multicore processors whose cores individually possess minimum resources. Although such processors are rather computing-inefficient if used as a single-core processor, we utilize multiple cores in a pipeline manner to efficiently handle a large amount of stream data. Also, by adjusting inter-core communications and the number of cores only, our processors achieve not only high throughput and low energy consumption but also good design-productivity. This talk demonstrates some case studies to show the effectiveness of our processors for applications that are often used in IoT systems.
