Making Driving More Connected and More Secure
Download SlidesAbstract
Connected vehicles are the ones that provide an access point to the cloud. As billions of connected vehicles come online, the attack surface of these vehicles increases due to the growing number of new apps and services. OEM are also conscious that from one side people want to use their favorite apps. While from the other side these apps and the underline services can act as a potential trojan horse enlarging the attack surface of vehicles. Many of the current connected vehicles are currently (and may continue) to be built without full regards for security, causing a real pain to OEM. Even more and more encryption and authentication functionalities have been integrated in vehicles, they can still be compromised. An increasingly common form of attack is the one targeting the system reboot or update. Using these attacks it is possible to take the control of the vehicle. Despite the inherent risks, the role of connectivity and openness is becoming a central pillar of next-generation automotive designs. In this presentation we illustrates some of the effective communication solutions to address efficiently the automotive cyber security.
