Multicore & Manycore High Throughput SoC for tomorrow's Network Processors
Network processors, used in Gateway equipment (Firewall, Access Routers, …), are evolving towards CPU-oriented architectures as a solution to support more complex services for QoS, user experience, security, analytics, … . Value added services running at L4-L7 layer and in-network computing requires high flexibility and high throughput SoC architecture to support line rate computing for >400Gbps traffic. With this increasing computing complexity, the packet processing performance is tightly coupled with CPU compute capability and efficiency. The SoC architecture is moving for multicore to manycore as a solution to scale up the throughput. The architecture exploration and the performance estimation for such complex MPSoC must consider SW OS and application layer. This talk presents our architecture exploration methodology, shows some solutions for packet processing and discuss more challenges for future architectures.
Dr. Camille JALIER is leading the SoC architecture team for Multicore and Manycore Technology for HUAWEI Networking products. Previously, he was a Chief Architect and Director of the Hardware at KALRAY. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science at the French nuclear agency (CEA), and his MsC from Ecole National Superieure (ENS).
